So if you're anything like me you are always planning your next adventure. Something I like to take into consideration is how national parks are changing around the country due to climate change and natural disasters. Some of these national beauties may not always be there, so that is why I want to make them top priority! Here is a list of a few national parks where time may be running out.
Fires are a natural disaster I feel like I am more aware of now than ever before, having gone to the Smoky Mountains as a kid I remember a different view than what is present there now, even years after there last fire I was still able to see where the fire roared through the mountains.
Parks Most affected by fires:
Smoky Mountains
Sequoia
Kings Canyon
Rocky Mountains
Yosemite
Olympic
Saguaro
Yellowstone
Grand Canyon
Wind Cave
Joshua Tree
Basically any park that showcases glaciers are fighting against the climate change and it is beginning to show in the shrinking of glaciers at many of our northern national parks.
Including:
Glacier National Park
Glacier Bay National Park
Gates of the Arctic
Denali
Katmai
Wrangells-St.Elias
Kenai Fjords
Lake Clark
Grand Tetons
Kobuk Valley
North Cascades
Then of course you have the worst beast of the them all, humans. Humans account for a major part of the destruction of our national parks. Here is a list of the most visited national parks which suffer from wear and tear more than any other parks.
Smoky Mountains
Yellowstone
Grand Canyon
Yosemite
Zion
Arches
Rocky Mountains
Olympic
Acadia
Bryce Canyon
Harsh or Warming Temperature
Joshua Tree
Death Valley
Saguaro
Losing the Animals
Rocky Mountains
Isle Royale
Lassen volcanic
Native Species Dying/ Non Native Species taking Over
Sequoia
Hawaii Volcanoes
Haleakala
Rocky Mountains
These lists are in no means complete and each park has its own obstacles to face year in and year out, but with more awareness and support maybe more parks will continue on a path to a better future.
Until Next Time,
Macy
